They said she was being so stubborn
But I saw the fear in her eyes
They said she was just disobedient
Yet I knew that she was in pain
She told me the horse was just useless
While I soothed the welts in his hide
They told me that he could not feel it
As I watched the blood streak his mane
He said that the horse would soon kill me
But I knew the horse saved my life
They told me the horse could not speak to me
Yet his feelings were there plain to see
I am grateful that I did not listen
To the things that they tried to explain
I’m grateful still more for the horses
Who trusted and showed me the way

So easy to misinterpret an animal’s behavior if we refuse to listen.

Absolutely! And sadly it is too easy to quiet their voices simply by ignoring them.
